RIP Dear Camera

Well it's happened. Our camera died. Part of me is sad and part of me is ecstatic, as it means we finally just have to break down and get a new camera.

I'm not entirely convinced that the camera is completely dead, however. When I turn it on, the lens comes out, goes back in and makes a few clicking noises. Then, in the bottom left-hand corner a little "E18" pops up.

I just looked up "E18 Canon error" on Google, and apparently this is a very, very common Canon problem. So common, in fact, that there is a Wikipedia entry for it.

Either way, it's time to get a new camera.

So, without further ado, I'm looking for suggestions on great cameras. I'm just looking for a little point-and-shoot (for now...but oh how I long for an awesome digital SLR - I love to take artsy pictures when I can!) What do you have? Why do you love it? What do you wish it had v. doesn't have? I'm pretty partial to Canon's, but I'm willing to listen if you've got a great camera to brag about. Let me know!

Gotta love my Canon Rebel XT, but now I see they've got this little flip out screen. On mine, you can't see the picture being taken. On this new one, the screen flips out and turns over (just like those on a video camera) so that you can see yourself in a self-portrait!! COOL!

i bought a nikon coolpix s550 last fall, and i couldn't be happier. i think i intended to buy an s210 (or 510?) after i had seen a display at a digital media convention type thing last summer, but kevin decided the s550 was more bang for the buck....

I'm a Canon girl. My SD630 takes great pics and videos! Since it's not the newest model, you can find them for around $150 or $200.

My biggest recommendation would be to find a new camera that you could use your battery and memory card from your old camera. That way you can cut down on costs associated with the new one!

Good luck and happy buying!

Canon is what we love. We have an elf and we just love how easy it is to point and shoot. Sara's is newer and totally cooler than mine! You should put your old one on Craig's List and see if you can get $75 for it!
